Art

Weekly art instruction introduces the basic concepts, vocabulary, and techniques in the field of art. The foundation skills of working with art media and equipment are introduced and built upon. Whenever possible, art instruction is tied to units of study in the academic curriculum.

Our Middle School students enjoy a rigorous S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, Math) Program where they incorporate what they are learning in their core academics classes, but in a new way. Students learn how things like technology helps make our life easier by completing experiments that align with real world problems.

Music

Weekly music instructions helps students develop a love of all kinds of music genres through songs and movement. Students learn singing techniques and an understanding of music notation through different kinds of instruments. Music is taught in connection to holidays, units of study, and worship.

Media/Technology

GSCS has a Media Center that incorporates technology and books together. Our Media Center space is equipped with three large touch screen computers and an interactive white board for student and class use. This along with our extensive book collection that ranges all grade levels and genres make the Media Center a great place to spend some time getting lost in a new adventure.

In today’s world, it is important to teach our students to use technology responsibly and offer them devices for learning while here at school. Good Shepherd has a dedicated computer lab, multiple laptop carts that can be checked out for classroom use, as well as computer workrooms in each building. Each classroom has its own interactive white board and set of devices, whether iPads or laptops, for student use daily. In addition, this year Good Shepherd is proud to have our entire Middle School students one to one with their own school-provided iPad.

P.E.

Weekly physical education teach our students the importance of a healthy body and diet. Students learn the basics of all kinds of sports ranging from soccer, football, basketball, yoga and hockey. They also learn the proper way to throw a ball, position their bodies, and stretch. Our physical education curriculum also includes lessons on making healthy choices in our diets.

Spanish

Spanish class is designed to learn the Spanish language through a variety of engaging and interactive methods, including listening and speaking, reading and writing, using different fun activities such as games, music, and role-playing exercises. These activities are carefully crafted to help students develop their language skills in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. Cultural celebrations from Spanish speaking countries are also an integral part of the curriculum, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of the rich cultural heritage of Spain and Latin America. From traditions of Dia de los Muertos, students are immersed in the sights, sounds, and flavors of Spanish-speaking cultures. Throughout the school year, students are involved in many activities, including group projects and presentations, which help to build their confidence and fluency in the language.
